We live in a judgmental world. Postmodernism, with its rejection of absolute truth, its emphasis on groupthink, its cancel culture, and the prevalence of Critical Race Theory, is the driving force in judgmentalism. Lines have been drawn between opposing opinions so fixed that it is difficult and, at times, impossible to communicate regarding some of the most important aspects of life. How are we as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ going to avoid being dragged down with the rest of society? How do we keep judgmentalism out of our local churches? How do we judge biblically so that the church can grow into a healthy body of believers?
The apostle Paul wrote extensively to one church, the church at Corinth, that had become embroiled in controversies regarding a number of issues threatening its existence. In 1 Corinthians chapters 4, 5, and 6, he writes concerning issues regarding judging.
In a trilogy of articles, I will examine Paul's instructions concerning three different problems in the church regarding judging. In chapter 4 he writes concerning judgementalism. In chapter 5, failing to judge. Chapter 6, resorting to secular courts.
